Jade Alston (her real name) was a VJ for eight years on Philadelphia’s longest running video show,Urban X-pressions. As an on-air VJ, Jade interviewed some of the hottest acts in entertainment like Lil’Wayne, Wendy Williams, Cee-Lo, Gabrielle Union, Jet Lee, etc… Jade also worked on music projects with numerous well-known people like songwriters Carvin & Ivan (Musiq Soulchild), singer Mario (J Records) and producer Chucky Thompson (Mary J Blige, Nas). Jade even released an indie project under the name Jasmine Jai that charted at #49 and #7 on the Billboard and Regional charts respectively for several weeks.

When recording artist Kelis needed a Hype Girl for her album’s radio promo tour, Jade was immediately selected. Jade shared the stage with Kelis for several dates before seizing the opportunity to go on tour to promote her own music. Jade toured the country opening for acts like 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, Jim Jones, Amerie, Sean Paul, Joe Budden and Trina. A producer from BET saw Jade’s live show and invited her to perform on BET’s 106th and Park. Of course Jade accepted and ultimately fulfilled one of her dreams – performing live on 106th and Park.

After several years of touring, the young Jade Alston had grown up. Being in the forefront for so long had kept her out of the studio for some time. Creatively Jade felt that she needed time behind the scenes to develop a more mature sound that better reflected her personality and talents. Jade also wanted to further explore her songwriting abilities. As of late, Jade has been doing just that. Jade has been working in the same writing/production camp as Grammy nominated songwriter Claude Kelly (Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, Miley Cyrus), Grammy winning producer Jon Jon Traxx (Beyonce) and Grammy winning producer Chuck Harmony (Rihanna, Fantasia and Chrisette Michelle). Jade has written for several national and international artists.

Jade has also embraced and developed her personal R&B sound in the process. While the tone and texture of Jade’s voice is like a 2011 Toni Braxton or Anita Baker, conceptually Jade is the female singing version of Kanye West and Drake. Jade blends Kanye’s soul, honesty and originality with Drake’s versatility and ability to relate. Like Carrie Bradshaw, the HBO character, Jade writes about women’s interests, has awesome style and is a great friend. To display this unique blend of concepts, Jade is introducing her sound to the world via the EP Single on a Saturday Night. As a body of work, Single on a Saturday Night tells a story about a single woman on a Saturday night. Each track plays like a journal entry into Jade’s personal diary. Jade’s first single, Missing You Lately, was co-penned with Grammy nominated songwriter Claude Kelly. Kelly co-penned two of the 11 tracks on the EP while Grammy winning producer Jon Jon Trax also contributed.

When asked to describe her project, Jade had this to say: “My style or approach to making music is like the singing, female version of Kanye West and/or Drake. My music is smooth and soulful, while still being young and modern. I am extremely excited for the world to hear it. All I do is write songs all day and all night. I write songs in my head, in my Blackberry, over beats, on my guitar, for myself and for other people. I’m definitely on my grind!”
